Kyleneisms

My daughter, Kylene, has her share of ‘isms. And believe me – they leave you scratching your head! She did one today that was just too good not to blog about.

Past ones have been from a story about her “modeling group heading to ‘PHONE-X’” instead of “Phoenix”. Or an incident where it was so traumatic “that my life flashed between my eyes.”

Today, folks, she topped all the previous Kyleneisms she has pulled in the past.

Kylene tells us about her lunch hour adventure at work. She and her friend, Sarah, are having their lunch in the lunchroom and watching Family Feud. The host gives 2 contestants a question one of them must answer before the buzzer rings. While the game on TV is being played, Sarah and Kylene play along to try to beat the contestants.

The question is as follows: Name a State that’s hard to spell.

Kylene: CINCINNATI!

Sarah: Kylene, that’s not a State, that’s a City!

Kylene: Look, (laughing) I was never good at Geometry!

Now I know where Jayden get his ‘isms.

Speaking of Kylene and Jayden, I took them out for a Mommy and Me photo shoot at our local Arboretum. These may be the last images I’ll take of them until our next visit. They leave for North Carolina next week! This month flew by!

Walkin in the Swamps of Louisiana

Wednesday, the day after Mardi Gras, Ray and I stopped by the swamp in Jean Lafitte on our way home. It had rained the night before and various parts of the area flooded. We wanted to check out the swamp after the storm.

It was interesting and scary at the same time. Scary, because the water was right up to the boardwalk, on both sides, and alligators lurk around there.

Here are some pictures of the area we

Mardi Gras in New Orleans

This year, my birthday fell the day before Mardi Gras, so that’s where I wanted to be. Right in the middle of it all, in New Orleans! There are two kinds of Mardi Gras in New Orleans – one where all the tourists go. That’s on Bourbon Street. Yes, this is where “all that raunchy stuff” goes on. And it’s all tourists. You won’t see any of the locals bearing it all for the beads. Then there’s the one held along St. Charles Street in the Garden District (as well as other locations throughout the New Orleans area) and that’s where the REAL Mardi Gras happens. Family fun, BBQs, happy little faces, and wholesome. If you ever go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, you MUST experience the true celebration of Mardi Gras. Even if it’s just once.

We did a little of both.

My first stop of the day was to have lunch with my wonderful

A Trip to Florida

I'm lucky to get to travel with my husband on his business trips. This past February we traveled to Orlando, Florida. I have never been to Florida, so landing in the middle of the state was OK with me. Maybe next time we'll head to Miami, or the Florida Keys, or somewhere where I can lay on the beach for a few days. But, Orlando was just fine by me.

We arrived on Monday, February 21 for a week’s stay. Ray’s seminar didn’t start until Thursday, so we had a couple of free days to play together. We checked into our hotel and headed to St. Augustine. The one thing Ray and I love to do when we travel is try to cram in as much as we can do in the amount of time we have. The drive to St. Augustine took about 2 hours. Ray's been there before and wanted to share his experience.

On the way there we took a quick detour

Ok, Let's Get In Gear!

Oh, I am so behind! This week is spent getting caught up on my blog. It’s been busy and, besides traveling with Ray on business, I have been cherishing the last month with Jayden. They are heading back to Charlotte, NC the end of this month. I honestly don’t know what I will do with a quiet house.

While we’re on the subject of Jayden, I wanted to share my Valentine’s gift Ray and I received from him.

This is what it says:

To My Nana And Pop

My Nana is like a super hero
She keeps up no matter where we go
She takes me here and takes me there
Lets me do whatever I want without a care
She can play all day without a nap
The best seat in the house is on her lap
She’s not afraid of spiders or snakes
And the best part about her is she lets me eat cupcakes
Ssshhh, don’t tell mommy

Now, Pop is a different story
He is the best dancer
And I can ask him any question, he has all the answers
He watches my movies and plays with my toys
And we only like the Saints, not the Cowboys (right pop?)
If I have a nightmare he sleeps in my bed
But he snores too loud so I stay awake instead
He takes me to work and we ride the big train
And tells me his adventures when he goes on airplanes

So, to Nana and Pop who love to play
I love you so much
On this Valentine’s Day

My favorite gift ever!
